I Hate Waiting

My life seems to be a game of hurry-up and wait...and wait...and wait. I hate waiting. I'm willing for wait for things, but I like to do things along the way. It makes the waiting easier :)

Why am I talking about waiting? Well, my house decorating plans are in the wait mode. It's hard. I see so many blogs about home decorating, pin ideas on Pinterest, look at catalogs and retailer websites, and visit local stores, but I can't start yet. In a couple of months I'll be able to start pulling things together, but until that time passes I'm in wait mode.

I've been really bummed about having to wait, but then I started thinking about it. I don't even know what my style is. What am I trying to accomplish? Yes, I want organized, functional, and pretty, but that really didn't narrow down what I really want. I'm also limited by the fact that this house is not ours. We are renting and I really don't want to spend a ton of money changing things that I can't take with us when we finally get to buy our own house. Believe me, there are many, many things I would change if we owned this house. We don't though and I have been trying to be realistic about what I want to do. So, other than paint the walls we aren't doing anything else. That leaves me to focus my creative energies into d├ęcor. I like that better anyway.

Like I said, I'm having a hard time deciding exactly what my "style" is. I like a lot of the stuff I see on blogs, Pinterest and in magazines. I like wood, both stained and painted. I like vintage things. I like colored walls, but also white. I think I may have narrowed it down to farmhouse chic with a little European influence. Does that make sense? We also need comfort and the ability to withstand small children. I'm not into lots of knick-knacks.

I think what got me thinking about this today is that I was cleaning. Cleaning is not my favorite thing to do. I like my house to be clean, but I don't really like cleaning it. Anyway, I was cleaning the bathrooms (least favorite thing ever) and I was thinking that the girls bathroom and downstairs bathroom would be good places to start when I can start painting and decorating. Small spaces that won't take a lot of time or money to complete. Perfect :)

So, here's what I'm thinking for the downstairs bathroom. I'm going to paint the walls Glass Tile CI 184 by Valspar Signature from Lowe's. I was going to post a picture of the sample, but it looks way too blue and it's more of a very light teal color. I'm using this bird figurine as my inspiration. I purchased it at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago, but I love it. It's a little bit darker than the paint color I'm going with.

I'm going to hang some vintage looking signs. Get new towels and rugs. I'll probably go with brown or dark teal or a combo of both unless I can find some pretty printed towels that go with everything. I want a large dark brown woven basket for extra towels and a pretty soap container. That should be it. I'll probably replace the switch cover because the one in there is ugly. Since I want to organize as well, under the sink I'll put a some baskets for TP and cleaning supplies. That should complete this one small room and shouldn't cost much either.

Well, that's it for my planning stage of the downstairs bath. I'll post before and after pics when it's done. Now that I know what I want to do, it's going to be harder to wait. LOL oh well. A lesson in patience :)
